Happy Fathers Day

I have the greatest Dad in the world! I just wanted to write a few memories and take my family down memory lane a bit. Some of my memories may not be exactly correct in others eyes, but they are how I remember the event. We all miss Dad so much and love him even more!

One evening (when I was around 10 or so)a bunch of my siblings and I came home from a high school play. York stopped me in the kitchen and gave me a big glass of water. He told me that Dad was thirsty. So I gave him the glass of water and he said, "oh thank you Polly, how did you know that was what I needed?" I just smiled and got ready for bed. Soon after, I saw Steven go give him a glass of water and then John. I don't know who else gave him one but I am sure there were more. Dad drank every galss given to him. The next morning I asked Dad how he had slept. He told me not very well because he kept on having to get up to go to the bathroom. York just cracked up when Dad said that. Dad just chuckeled and shook his head. Now knowing what had happened.

I decided to graduate a year early from high school. I went in to talk to my school counselor to see what I could do and he wouldn't give me any advice saying that no matter what, I was lacking 2 credits to do that. I mentioned going to the ALC to take some classes on line. He told me that he would not allow that because I was not dropping out or pregnant.I decided to go ahead and get my G.E.D. That didn't go over with anyone and really I wanted to graduate not get that. After I had done all that I could do and could not get a resolve, Mom and Dad went in for me. They didn't tell me that they were going to do this they just went and talked to everyone. They got me into a class at the Tech. with a school to careers class and set everything up so that I could get my two credits.

In advanced Biology we had a a quarter on botany. We had to gather a certain amount of plants and key them out. Dad had Colby send me his old college botany book and then he and I walked around the drain banks and town gathering a bunch of plants. He then helped me key them out. It was fun for me to spend that time with him.

After all the "younger kids" would go to bed, the popcorn would be popped and games would be played. I have never been the best sleeper and sometimes it would take an hour or more for me to fall asleep. Every now and then, Dad would let me get back up and be with everyone. One particular night, I asked Dad if I could get up. He was watching football. He told me that I could if I stayed on his lap and watched the game with him. I agreed and was excited to be up and able to eat popcorn with him. A few times I picked some up and put it in my mouth, I noticed it was wet. So I would take it back out and put it bakc in the popcorn bowl. I thought Dad was spitting on some of them out. Turns out, at night Dad would put melted butter on the popcorn and that was why it was wet!

One day Serena was walking out of my room. Dad came up behind her and gave her a big hug and a kiss on the head. When she turned around he said, "oh, I thought you were Polly". She was really embarassed but he just hugged her again anyway and said he could hug her even if it wasn't me.

Dad and I went to the rodeo one night. Mom was meeting us there after she made some treats for us. We went early to stand in line and get good seats. He had brought some cards and we sat down to play and wait for the gait to open. There were some kids around us so he invited them to come play. By the time the gates opened, there were about 8 people playing other than us all invited by Dad.

I loved playing hearts with Dad. He always would try to run it and very seldom made it eating 25 of the 26 points. Everytime I would play with him, I would get in the best mood and I was laughing the whole time. One night, the last hand if he ran it, he said he was going to. I just laughed and didn't believe it. We were all trying to stop him but he did! I was so happy for him. (not that he minded when he lost) but it really made my day.

Dad would always tell me that I was so beautiful but no one was as beautiful as my mother. I loved to hear that. His devotion was sincere and honest and exactly what I wanted out of a husband.

Dad and Mom worked together as such a team. If she was sweeping and he walked by, he wouldn't say anything he would just grab a dustpan and let her sweep it all up in it. We were playing catchphrase or one of the games like that one night. He and Mom were on a team and they mopped up! Their clues to eachother were so one tracked that most people wouldn't have known what they were talking about. But years of marriage had taught them enough about eachother that they were an instoppable team.

I guess I could go on and on with memories but I won't because this would never end. I am just thankful that he was such an active member in my life. I love him dearly and am very excited for the day I get to see him again.

Church softball

On Friday our stake had a softball tournament. Chattanooga Valley (my ward) played at 7:30 p.m. I didn't play this time though because I had been awefully sick during the week and I was barely begining to feel better. Our team lost but it was by a really bad call. I was actually glad though because the winner was playing the next day at 12:30 and I really didn't want to hang out in the heat. It was fun cheering on our team and just watching. After the game we went to a friends house where we had tacos and icecream. We didn't get home until 11:00. Needless to say, Cole was a nightmare the next day. Sage slept in really late so she was fine. No big deal though because the kids only stay out late a couple times a year so we can deal with that. They also had a blast at the game playing with their friends.

Dr.s Cole and Sage

Next patient please!

What do you do in the summertime!

My kids love the pool. Love to kick their feet in it, love to splash their hands in it, love to fish in it, anything but swim in it.

Daddy's Little Helper

Cole has finally gotten over his intense fear of loud noises. Now he embraces them and climbs right up...except for the motorcycle.
