Birds of Prey

Today my friend and I went to the high school track to work out. We noticed that there were 3 hawks sitting on the top step of the bleachers. I pointed them out to Cole. He got really excited and asked if he could go touch them. I told him that they were preditors and he would get eaten. (kind of mean but funny.) He just looked at me and asked again. I told him that I didn't care. So he and my friends 2 girls (one 4 and one almost 8) hiked up the bleachers to look at the hawks. Maury and I were jogging around the track with our babies. We are watching and the kids were getting pretty close and the birds would not fly away. Cole got to the step below the birds before they flew away. They went and perced on the stadium lights. All of a sudden, one swooped down at the kids and flew back up. (It was about 3 feet above their heads.) A minute later, another swooped down toward their head. A little closer this time. Maury and I were across the track and then a 3rd time the other swooped closer than the previous two. I told Maury that they were getting closer so we abandoned our strollers and ran across the field to get the kids. Cole was laughing hysterically at each swoop, Caroline was crying and Annie wanted to get away but couldn't get the other kids to come. It happened a 4th time and much close to the kids but by this time, Maury was climbing the bleachers and then they stopped. It was kind of crazy.

Play Ball!

I am in charge of the church activities and I thought it would be fun to have a softball game. We played at a place that has a playground for the kids in the back of it. After the ball game, we had hotdogs and stuff like that. I didn't really think a lot of people would come but at least 30 or so. Boy was I wrong! We had 6 people play the game and about 10 people watch. It is frusterating to plan an activity and not know how many to plan for. We get way too much food and then on others, I don't plan high enough and don't get enough food. So all of you people who do not support the activities in your ward, I hope you get the calling. I really do enjoy the calling just not the inconsistency of people. We ended up just playing work up because there were not enough people for a real game. And, I got my first black eye. It is kind of a disapointment that I got it in work-up and not even a realy game! Oh well. The kid who hit the ball felt really badly but I told him it was my own fault for not catching the ball. It was kind of funny though because it was a grounder and I was so ready for it. I was right in front of it and my mit was in position...it popped up and nailed me in the face instead. I did finish the play though.
