Hurry! Hurry! Hotter! Hotter! Fire! Fire! Water! Water!

Story time's theme was fire fighters. We read a few stories about firemen, colored a fire truck and went next door to the fire station. It was so good. The firemen were so kid friendly and they let them put on their uniforms, sit in the firetruck, had someone climb to the top of the ladder, and did a tour of the fire house. We even got to use their bathroom (lucky us). Here are a few pictures of the little expedition. P.S. the head band Sage wears around her arms in front of her is her "dress". We don't go very many places without it.

Sunday was our primary program. This was Cole's first year in primary so it was extra fun for me to watch. The music leader had made all the parents a cd with all the primary songs for the program on it so the kids could learn them better. I would play ours quite often. When the fist song started, Sage perked right up and started singing with the kids. She knew all the words and sang as loudly as her pretty singing voice would allow. It really was cute. She was sitting on Will's lap and after a few songs, follow the prophet came on (her favorite) and she jumped off his lap and ran to the stand to sing with all the kids. She was front and center singing with all of them. When the song was nearly over, she came back down and joined us again. It was cute but I told Will not to let her do that again.
Cole, on the stand did a great job. He sang all his songs and when it was his turn for his part, he walked right up to the mic and said, "Jesus loves and understands me" without hesitation or help. I know it is such a short part but I am glad that he remembered and did so well. Near the end, I was looking at him and Maury (one of the primary counselors who was sitting next to him) told him to look and see his mom. He thought she said, "go see your mom" so he gets up all calmly and walks off the stand to finish the last 5 minutes of sacrament with us. It was kind of funny.
Cole felt like such a big kid participating this year. It is fun to watch him grow up.

Um, maybe that was a bad Mom moment...

The other night around 6:00 p.m. Cole and Sage ask if they can watch a movie. I tell them that was okay but we are not watching The Little Mermaid II or Bambi. We have a lot of Disney movies that haven't been seen. As I am trying to convice Cole of watching something he hasn't seen, I come across Jamunji. (I haven't seen it since it came out in the theater and all I remember is that I really liked it. Plus, it has lots of animals in it. Cole hears the animals part and he is definately on board. So I throw it in and get the girls in the bath. I miss the first part of it. I come in and Cole says, "Mom, the boy is in the game!" (I don't remember anything about this movie but it is rated PG). I ask him if it is too scary and if we should get something else. He says no. Will was on the computer so I ask him and he says it is fine. (He is not paying attention to it). I get the girls dressed, Mckelle in bed and then Sage and I go in the livingroom with Cole. Will is gone out with the missionaries now so Cole had been alone. He is trasfixed on this movie. As I start watching, I realize that it is kind of scary. I ask a few times if we should turn it off. He desperately says no. Sage is okay, she doesn't seem to really understand much of it and just wants to pet all the animals coming out of the game. Toward the end, cole is getting pretty scared. He is shaking and clenched. I have to sit next to him (it was close to the end so I figured it would be better to let him have the happy ending, I was hoping would be there, rather than turn it off and let his imagination run with it). It ends and he acts all fine. I tell him to go to the bathroom to go to bed. He says okay and jumps up. He is half way to the bathroom and asks me to come in with him. I do. He asks me to sleep with him. I stayed by him until he fell asleep.
The next morning, I am in the girls' bedroom getting them ready when Cole walks in with the movie. He asks if he can watch it again. Sage yells, "No! I don't like Jamunji!!!" I tell Cole that I shouldn't have let him watch it and he won't be watching it again for a few more years. Sage says, "Yes, Cole, not for a few years." Cole walks away kind of bummed.
Sage is now walking around talking about the lions coming out or the monkies smoking cars or petting the zebras. I don't know what I was thinking by letting them watch that but I wouldn't recommend it for your 2 and 3 year old. We will be sticking with the little mermaid II.
